BYE 6TH GRADE

My best work was my last lit circle because I think that I did a really good job because I really took my time to look over what passages were good and what my questions were supposed to be and checked if they were a level 1,2 or 3 question.

The greatest challenges for me were the change from 5th grade to 6th grade. The organization was a really big challenge for me this year. Last year we didn’t have to be so organized that we needed to be this year. Some times this year I have forgotten to write down what homework we had or to look at moodle so I have missed some assignments. This affected my grades a bit and it took longer time to do the assignment.

My growth has been really surprising for myself. I never thought that I could have improved my writing skills because I have always been a bad writer. I have improved a lot in my writing skills. My analyzing has improved a lot. But I think it’s still hard, and a lot of work.

Regarding my work habits I think my behavior is good, but I could make my behavior so it would be perfect. My behavior could be improved by that I listen better to what the teacher tells the class and focus on that and not fool around and do what I want to do.

I think that participation is one of my strengths in school. I participate a lot in class and I get involved in any activities that we do in class or outside. I like group work except when I am in a bad group when my partners don’t do anything of the work. It is fun when we do experiments and when we solve hard problems together.

My organization is satisfactory and I really need to work on it and improve it. I have improved this year in my organization but I still think that it’s not good enough yet. What I’m going to do about it is that I’m going to look at moodle and try to write down what’s for homework and when I get home I should start it immediately.

When I put good effort into my work so I get a fair grade. But if I put a bit more effort into my work I would get a better grade than an okay grade. Like in some of my work I have put a lot effort in and then I have gotten A or B+. But almost all of the time I just put just enough work so I got an okay grade which is a C+ to B. I think that I should have at least a B to be satisfied.

Goal 1 - In Grade 7
My first goal is that to get my organization better so I know where I got all of my stuff and so I hand in all my assignment on time and don’t forget to hand it in. To achieve this goal I will have a folder for each subject and I will keep everything in it. I also need to write down my homework.

Goal 2 - In Grade 7
My 2nd goal is that I want to beat my high jump height which is 1.45 meters. To achieve this goal I will continue training in a track and field team and see after 7th grade if I have achieved my goal.

What I like my 7th grade teachers to know about me is that I’m very active and I like to do active stuff that involves moving around and doing something with the hands like building stuff, or experiments. I need this t be able to sit down and focus. What I would tell the incoming 6th graders is that they will be nervous the first week or two but it will go over. They should also stay on task and hand in their work on time so the teacher doesn’t have to send an email home and tell your parents. If they miss any assignments they should do it when they get home or come in at lunch and do it, otherwise they can stay after school and finish it. But they should always have their assignment in. They should also get involved in activities as well and just enjoy being in 6th grade. They should bring 10rm a day or 50rm a week for lunch and snack but it’s really up to the parents.

Dear, Mom, Dad and friend's

I have fled to a place were we are free and where we don't have to be capped. It's a place with out Tripods and there is no capping. Now I'm going to tell you what convinced me to run away to this place.

Here is what convinced me to run away. Ever since I saw Jack got capped I really didn't want to be capped. I felt scared and uncomfortable. I thought about what would happen if there is another place somewhere out there where there are no tripods?

Then this ma

n told me about the White Mountains. He said the White Mountain's is a place where mankind is free. And that there are no Tripods. He said that you are free in a way that you just have to go. It was like if you daddy had said it to me. I thought that it would be a good place to live the rest of my life. After about two days I said to myself I should go. My journey was long. I met two other people on the way that I picked up as they wanted to go with me. The people here in the White Mountains are nice, they are much nicer than the people in the village. Here you are free and you have a mind of your own.

This what convinced me to leave for the White Mountains

What is freedom?

"The bitter thing was all the spirit, all the gallantry, was wasted. For even more than inferiors, they accepted and looked forward to being Capped. It was a part of becoming a knight, or of turning from a girl to lady. Thinking of this, I saw how good things could be meaningless in isolation. What value did courage have, without a free and challenging mind to direct it?" (p. 111) There are two reasons why I think this theme relates to freedom. One of them is that in this village there is a type of freedom. They are capped and under the control of the tripods but they live quite a good life. They are happy and nice to each other. They don´t have to work all day and they do whatever they want to. When they are about to be capped it shows that the boy or girl is going to be a knight or a lady, which is good. They have a life that is good and everyone is happy about their life. They can also choose who they want to marry and what job they want to have. This is one kind of freedom that they have. The second reason is that when you have real freedom you're not under control at all.The people in the village are capped and under the will of the tripods even if they are happy. The people in the village they aren't allowed to say what they want and they can't think what they want. That's not real freedom. Real freedom is when they can say whatever they want to and not to be under control by the tripods. Like us we think whatever we want and we say whatever we want to but we are not allowed to hurt anyone. We are not under control. That's what real freedom is.

Dear diary, Last Friday I woke by the nightmare, a nightmare that actually happened for real. I didn’t even want to wish that this week would have to be great. It’s because I trust my self too much, and I thought I know. I’m sorry I forgot about you Deitys my gods and goddesses, I’m sorry that I loved my wife so much, but then I forgot about you. Diary... I guess he gave me the best life anyone could possibly have. I know I should think that I deserve this, I can’t take care of my wife alone, what happens when there’s another person I need to take care of. My own child is going to suffer, my family would not be a faithful one. But why did he have to give me such a sudden time to think, is it just me?

Today I went to my workshop and made a small building of my wife when she just got 7 months of pregnancy. I bathed near the Nile, admiring my building carves, her long linen clothes fitted beautifully. Until the afternoon, a guard came looking for me. The guard said he was messenger sent by king Khufu, the king wanted me to make him a small dimensional idol of himself. “You a new worker?” I asked. The messenger said ‘‘Umm... Yes sir.” then added “Here are pieces of pure gold the king wanted you to use.’’ I laughed, and I showed him my building, ‘‘You see this? Sorry what’s your name?’’ He seemed confused and said ‘‘My name , I’m sorry, I’m only here to tell you what I need to say. I will come back here the day after tommorow, good afternoon sir.’’ Aapehty left, then I put my clothes back on. I thought of going to get some food, walking around many small food shops were closing. Suddenly someone tapped me on my shoulder, I was so shocked! I was daydreaming for so long today. It was my buddy Djao, he said sorry about our lost, we talked for quite a while. He said his son is starting to become an painter, his whole family is fantastic hieroglyphs painters, it seems like he could call his family an art dynasty in the future. Djao’s family is actually how I and Ammenenshi wanted ours to be. Then Djao asks to go buy some bread for his family in the market before it closes. I also went buy some bread for I have absolutely nothing to eat at house. We drooled over the foods in the market, but we decided to eat our favorite dried fish small food-shop beside the Nile. I haven’t ate since the day before, it was really delicious. Even the cook giggled “How many years have you not eaten boy?’’ he said. My buddy laughed and added that I just been trough a hard time. After some delicious dinner. Oh my, I was so full I felt like throwing up. Djao decided he wanted to walkme home, and we chatted on the way there. When we arrived, we were just shocked, my house was so filthy. Not only the dirt and little spider net strings, but the mud bricks are falling apart. Djao help to clean up a bit, and I told him to go home before it’s darker. I said goodbye and he left, it was really lonely without Ammenenshi around anymore, I went up the roof. I look at the stars and just enjoy the night breeze. I slept through the night up on the roof, that day I didn’t have any nightmares. I thank Djao who really made my day, I felt much calmer, and I know I have someone to depend on. On Sunday, I remembered that the Messenger from king is going to come again and take me to the King’s place to work his idol there. I dressed up casually as I always did. I wore one of my favorite white tunic t-shirt I bought with my wife. And I wore my leather sandals to show respect and be politer. When I just arrived to my workshop, Aapehty was already there waiting for me. He told me to get ready with the materials, I told him to relax and being proud said I’ve been working with him for a long time. I got ready and we headed to the boat waiting in the Nile. Suddenly the rain falls, and soon after that inundation appeared just about meters from my workshop. We ran and ran, heading to the boat. My slippery sandals made me slipped and I almost fell into the river water.

On April 16th I woke up early and took a walk by the Nile river just before I was going to look at that temple drawing that I did for the Pharaoh Isis. When I got to my shop I sat done at my new table and chair and started to look at what I have drew last week. Today is actually a day that I'm not suppose to work on. I had looked at it for a while and i fixed some of the details and then i got up and walked out of the shop and did whatever I wanted for the rest of the day. When I came to the market I stood there for a while and thought about what I should do today. I thought first I might go to one of the temples that held Dramatizations in it. Then I should take my son and take him out to do some fishing, in the river. After that I have to go and be with my friends and have some fun with them too. Then I said to my self that I was going to think about what I was going to do after all of those things. I went to the temple Deir al-Hagar temple and there was all sort of different people. There was a lot of dramatizations and there were incredible! I stat there about for one hour and I was entertained because they were so amazing. Then after 25 minutes I meat my friend and he came to watch them too. We sat there and talked about a lot of random stuff. After there performers every one left and all of them were talking about it. Then I said goodbye to my friend and walked home. I called after my son which was playing a game with his friends. When he came I told him that we were going out to fish and got very glad about it. We got on our boat and then we sailed out to the ocean. We were gone for a while and came back for about 2:30pm. I caout five fishes and my son caut four fishes. We got on land and he ran off to show his mommy what he had caut. I felt good when he was so happy and full of energy. Then he ran to me and gave me a hug and said thank you then he ran off to his friends again and play there game. I saw my friends inside a restaurant and I walked to them and sat down with them. We sat there and talked for a long time about for two hours. I had something to eat and drink while I was there. We talked about what we are doing on are job right now and then it came to me, I said I was drawing a temple that the Pharaoh Isis wanted to build and its going to be big.

blogpost 3 ;)

1. How were the Tripods able to control the people? The tripods control the people by these small metal things that they put on their heads. Example " The difference was in his white shaved head, on which the darker metal tracery of the cap stood out like a spider web" pg# 16 2. Find evidence (quotations from the novel) to show that even though Will is comfortable living at the castle, he is frustrated that the Comte, Comtesse, and Eloise have been capped. Evidence " She asked about my health- I told her I was very well- and if I were happy at the castle. I assured her that I was. Then she said: "I am glad of that. Perhaps if you are happy, you will not want to leave us." pg# 119. This shows he was comfortable at the castle. Example "She had forgotten me already, in any sense that truly mattered. All her mind was concentrated on the tripods. Her master had called, and she was going to them gladly." pg #137 this shows that Will is frustrated. 3. Find evidence (quotes) to show how Will feels about being capped. Will feels fear when he hears about capping. Capping scared him so that he fled to the white mountains where he didn't have to be capped he hoped. Example "Why should the triopds take people away, and cap them? What right have they? They do it for our good. But I don't see why is has to happen. I'd sooner stay as I am." pg #18

How will Beanpole help Will and Henry on their journey to the White Mountains ?

Will and Henry let Beanpole join them on their journey after they got to land after the boat journey. Beanpole is a smart guy and everyone in the town which he lived in thought that he was weird. Here are some reasons how Beanpole will help Will and Henry on their journey.

One of the reasons how Beanpole will help them on their journey is that Beanpole is older and he knows the landscape better than they do because he lives there and Will and Henry don't. Beanpole will know what or which way is faster or safer to travel on. Evidence that they want Beanpole to join them and that he knows the landscape is "Someone whom we already knew to be resourceful, who knew the country and the language. It was almost too good to be true" pg #69

The second reason is that with Beanpole's smartness he can build something that might help them to get pass something or to go through something. He might make something that help them travel faster or something that will just help them in any way. Evidence of his smartness is" He had quite a tremendous brain. His speaking English, for instance: he had found an old book, giving instructions in the language, and taught himself". "His eyesight was poor, and he had worked it out that, since mariners' telescopes helped sailors to see at a distance, a glass in front of each eye might enable him to see more clearly." pg #71

How is Will just like you?...... :)

There are three ways how Will is just like me that I found out while I was reading The White Mountains :

One way how Will is just like me is that he has never seen a watch before so he took it from his dad's cupboard because he was curious. I would have done the same if I had never seen a watch before. I would have taken the watch and run away with it somewhere and then i would sit down and study it. Then after I had studied it I would have put it back just like Will. I am very curious too.

Will decided to run away to the white mountains and he packed everything a head of the game so he was ready for the journey. I would have done the same thing. I would have packed a bag pack so I could just go and grab it and run away when it was time to do so. When there is something I really want to do I try to plan ahead.

I would have said yes to Henry as well because if I didn't let him come with me he would probably set the alarm off and I would have been thinking that way to. But Í am a bit different from Will because I like to have company, someone to talk to.

This is how Will is just like me.

Reflection for IMOVIE

1. Why do you think Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs created monuments?

The Pharaohs built monuments so that they would forever be remembered throughout the Egyptian empire. Basically so that every time someone looked at the monument they remembered the great leader that they had once. Like King Khufu he built the Great Pyramid so they would remember him after he died. I also think that they built them to show how powerful they were.

2. What monuments in our society are similar? (be sure to provide explanations and graphics).

The Great China Wall, Twin Tower, Eiffel tower are all monuments that their country built because they wanted something that no one has seen before. These are monuments that someone wants the whole world to now about. All these three monuments were built to be there forever. The great wall of China was there also to protect it's people.

3. How did the using google docs as the main portal for collaboration help you with this assignment?

You can put info on the google doc and then the next day your partner might use the info that you put on the google doc for his part of the work . You could also add to the info your friend put on it. You could see what information your partner put on the google doc. The best thing about google docs is that you don't have to sit right next to your partner when you need to work on it, you can sit at home and work . You or your partner can see what one of you put on the google doc all the time.

4. What did you learn from this assignment?

I learnt a lot of different stuff about Ancient Egypt Pharaohs. The one I mainly got to learn about is was King Khufu who was a Pharaoh. Pharaohs are like kings, leaders of their country and have a lot of power. They build buildings that they want to last for ever, the building shows their power. King Khufu built the Great Pyramid so it would last forever.

5. What was challenging?

The challenging part about this assignment was to find a quiet place and to read the text that was on the computer. It was hard to find a quiet place because everyone in our class was everywhere where we wanted to be to record. It was also hard to record because there was so much noise around us. It was hard to read the text when we were recording because sometimes you look at the wrong paragraph and then you have to do it all over again.

6. Which schoolwide learning results were evident in this assignment?

Me and Gerald sochoolwide learning results were Communicate Effectively and Collaborate Constructively. We communicated by chatting and talking about what we needed to finish in class and what we needed to do at home. We also discussed who was going to be the interviewer and who was the professor. We discussed what we were going to say and how we were going to do it. We collaborated good because we did half of the work each. We solved all or problems.

COMMENTS TO MY PROJECT

1) What you believe you did well on the project?

What I believe I did good was that I had a lot of facts about Sweden. I spoke loud enough so everyone could hear what I had to say. I was prepared to present my project to the class. I was prepared because I had practiced to present my project so it would go good and so I wouldn't forget anything.

2) What you would improve for future presentations/projects?

What I would do different is that I would have more pictures of Sweden. I could have a bit more information about Environmental Factors and Historical Factors because I think that I had a little too little information. If I had a little more time I would be able to pull out a bit more information about Stockholm. I should have also started my research a bit earlier and asked for help when I couldn't find any information about Stockholm.

3) What did you learn from your preparation (for your presentation) in addition to the presentations of others?

What I learned is that my city is one of the places that has an average age that is pretty old compared to the other cities. I learned a lot about the other cities that my classmates come from. When they presented their projects I wanted to visit their cities so much because it sounded fun and interesting there.

4) What is your analysis of your performance?

My analysis is that Mrs.Narsiman graded my project in a good way. Because I was prepared. I had more than the minumum of facts that we needed. I had enough photographs. I had good information that I needed to have to get a good grade.

New Year Resolution's

My New Year Resolutions are

I want to do all the work I get to be handed in on time so I don't have to do it all over again. When I get the assignment I should give it in when it's due or before it's due. In 6th grade so far I have had to do 2 assignments over which didn't take long at all, but instead of doing it over I could have been with friends. It's not fun because when you have to do it over your parents will always tell you that you have to do the work you are missing, and it's not fun.

My other New Year Resolution is to beat my sister's record for 200m running. What I need to do to achieve this goal is that I need to run and train more so I can get faster. I need to eat healthier food and not a lot of junk food, but I can still eat some junk food.

During the holiday, me and my family stayed here to celebrate Christmas for the first week. We spent Christmas eve with our neighbors. Then on Sunday morning we got to the airplane that took us to New Zealand. The first day in New Zealand we took it easy. On the third day we were going to see whales but it was canceled the whole day because it was too windy so we couldn't. The fourth day we swam with dolphins and it was a lot of fun.

The second week we were hiking up on the mountains for three days. The hiking was fun but the first day was not really a nice day because it was raining a lot. The two other days we had really nice weather. When we were up on the mountains we had a beautiful view of the trees and the hills. The food we had with us was okay but the breakfast was terrible. When we got back from the hiking we went back to Queenstown and the next day we went to try to see the whales and this time we got to see them.   This is what my holiday was about.

1. I learn best when I get the big picture right away and not when we go through it step by step. When I get  information I need to I read it by myself first. Then when I don't understand I go and ask the teacher for help. I learn the best by doing an active activity in the class, because I like being active.

2. I need to work and focus more in class. When I get work in class that I need to do, I get distracted by other people. I try to work very hard and it works most of the time. But sometimes I still get distracted by other people and then I go around and distract other people that are working until I come and distract them. Something else I need to work on is that I need to be sitting still during class. As I said before I like to move a lot but I am always trying my hardest to sit still and focus and work hard during classes.

3. The strategies that would help me in my learning is that I can listen first for a while then I need to do something by myself for example practice or do a lab because otherwise I will get distracted. Like at home when I do my homework I get rid of everything that can distract me before I start.

4. I would like my teachers to know that it said on my profile that I am good at music like instruments. It also said that I was good at arts, like drawing stuff. I'm good at instruments and I like music because it makes me relax a lot. I disagree with that I am good at art because I have always had trouble with drawing . I have always been into music but not really art.

The benefits of working with a classmate.

The benefits of working with a class mate is that you don't have to do everything by yourself. When you have done your part of the work then you can ask you partner to check it and see if you can make it better in any kind of way. Even before you start working on your lit circle the two of you can talk about the book and you can help each other with ideas to write about. It is more fun to work with a partner than work alone.

Challenges / obstacles which you overcame (tried to overcome).

Things that I have tried to overcome is that  I don't need to be stressed. I was stressed last time because my partner hadn't done his work that he was supposed to do and it was only two days left. I realized that I need to trust my partner and he needs to be able to do it in his own way. If you don't think your partner is doing his work than you should tell them that in a nice way. This can make you stressful.

New understandings that you gained about the novel.

When your partner and you are discussing about the book then you get to know how they think about the novel. Than when you know how they think about the novel then you might change your understanding about the novel of your book. I think that me and my partner discussed too little about how we thought this time. I didn't gain so many new understandings about the novel.

Thursday, November 4, 2010

1. How you discussion helped your understanding of the novel. 2. Connections that you made during your discussion 3. Predictions

1. How your groups discussion helped your understanding of the novel.

The discussion helps me understand the novel a lot. When we discuss what we think is important in the book I get to know what the other people think about it. I got to know that Brian was not a person that gave up that easily. If Brian was not a person that gave up easily then he must be a fighter which he was. For example he was brave enough to try to land the airplane even though he was thinking that he would die. This information I could add to my own thoughts. It helps me to understand Brian.

2. Connections that you made during your discussion

I have made many different connections when we have discussed what have happened in the book. Some connections were sad, some happy, and some were good and bad. For example when we talked about the divorce I remembered a friend in Sweden and his parents were divorced and he was really sad for months.  Another connection that I didn't think of before the discussion was when one person in our group said that the pilot died right away I thought of my grandfather. Just like the pilot died instantly so did my grandfather. My grandfather did not die of a heart attack but a embolism in his brain.

3. Predictions

Our group prediction was that we thought that Brian was going to be attacked by some animal. We had many different thoughts about what was going to happen to Brian. One of our groupmembers said that Brian wouldn't find enough food to survive. When the person said that I made a prediction. The prediction was Brian would survive but he would also be attacked by a snake or another animal. What I learned about this is together you make a different prediction than each person makes by them self. When one person males a predictions the other people can build on it or question it.

What role did geographic location and natural resources play in the the development of Malaysia?

Malaysia is right on the equator and it's pretty warm here almost every day. In Malaysia it's pretty much summer all year long and the climate is very stable. Being very close to the equator it rains almost every day. As Malaysia also have a lot of flat land it makes it good for farming. In the start they mostly did rise farming. Malaysia has hills where it's colder so they can also farm tomatoes, tea, strawberries and many other vegetables.

Malaysia has many natural resources. Malaysia had rubber trees so they could get a lot of rubber from it. They have a lot of tin too and it is a sort of metal and they used that very well. Malaysia have palm oil that they need for food. They got the oil from palm trees that they planted. Later on they discovered gas and oil out side Borneo. All of these resources are sold to other countries.

I think that Malaysia became wealthy because the geographic location and the climate gave Malaysia a really good food supply. The good food supply is the bases for the country to develop.  Another thing that makes Malaysia wealthy is that Malaysia has many natural resources. These resources are sold to many other countries and then Malaysia gets money to buy anything that they don't have and build hospitals and schools. All this help Malaysia to develop.

Write a narrative from the point of view from a mud skipper when Team 6A students descended on the mangroves to plant saplings.

Last week I was just playing around in the mud with my friends but then we heard some strange noises.Well, me and my friends kept on playing but then.... we saw some giants and they were screaming so loud. A few seconds later a man told the kids to quiet down. Oh sorry I forgot to tell you who I am. My name is Freddy but you can call me Fred, I live in the mud under the ground. So let me go on with what I have told you so far. The man told them to quiet down and then he showed them how to plant a mangrove tree? What is a mangrove tree? Anyways when the man had finished to show them he walked and showed them where to plant  the trees.

A few minutes later the giants started to walk where we were playing!! They nearly stepped on Tim and Jesper when we were running away. We were watching how the giants walked in the mud and the three first giants got stuck in the mud and it was so funny as they were trying to get loose. It was hilarious to see the giants fall over and how they got stuck when they were on their way to plant the mangrove tree.  A few minutes after the giants had planted the trees there were people starting to play with the mud and they put it on their friends.

One hour after there started to be very few giants to walk in the mud so me and my friends decided to go out on the big area where the giants had been walking and falling. There were still some giants left to plant the mangrove trees so we had to watch out for where they stepped. When the last giant was about to plant the mangrove tree he walked so fast the he stepped on Jesper!!!! Then we ran to Jesper but we were to late. When the giant came back, even faster this time he stepped on Tim first then on me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bullying

I saw a time a kid got bullied at recess and I was thinking that they were playing at first. But then I saw the group of kid's started punshing the kid to the wall. I saw the kid that was to the wall was hurt and scared of the group of guy's that I knew because I was friends with them.  I was just standing there and watching what they did to him. At last they said to the kid that he had to get it for the person  that the bullied the kid  at lunch and the kid was " Yes, Yes, Yes I'll have it at lunch." Then the group pusihed him down to the ground and then they walked off.

A time when you showed Courage

A time when I showed courage is  when I came here for the first time. The first day of school I needed to go on the bus. I did not know anyone on the bus or at the school. I did not tell me parents that I was scared to go on the bus alone, for the whole bus ride I was sitting alone.

When I got to school I was scared and I didn't know where to go so I asked the people around me. Finally I got to my class room and saw all the other students there. For the whole day I was as quiet as I could be. When it was time to go to lunch some of the other students in my class showed me around the school. They showed me where the P.E gym was and where the music room was.

When the school day was over I was so happy :D. When I got home my parents were asking me if everything was good and I said yes but they kept asking me how it was and if I liked the school and I said yes. They still kept asking me still and I was like thinking it was so annoying. I was scared but I didn't want to make them worried

What do the artifacts tell us about the lives of early humans?

The artifacts tell us that the early humans had more knowledge than we might think.  The cave paintings on the roof tell us about how they lived, hunted and other stories about their life. In the paintings you can see that the early humans used different tools to hunt or make a fire or to make the food. This means that they can use tools to help them just like our tools help us. I got interested by the spear thrower and how they used it.

I think that the spear thrower belonged to someone that might be a leader or someone else that the clan needed. I think that the tools they used for the cave paintings must be hard to paint with, don't you think? What tools did they have? Did they have tools for getting wood, did they have tools to get water to their clan or family?

The tools that the early humans used needed to be made of someone, right? The clan had properly two or five people doing the tools for the clan. They must have made the tools by hand because they did not have any machines in that time. We have  machines that do tools for us right now but they did not. I think it might have taken along time for the people making the tools.
